Manual or Automatic Car, which is better for a beginner?

I do not know how to drive but I sure do want to and I’m planning to learn how to drive and buy a second-hand car to practice with by the end of the year. So before I choose the model, the big question is which is better, a manual transmission or an automatic car?

Let’s start by understanding what the terms mean (because frankly, I don’t know). They say that an automatic car has automatic transmission. This means that it automatically shifts gears without the aid of the driver, and with no need of a third pedal and the clutch as the car shifts from one gear to another. On the other hand, a manual transmission car requires the driver to use the clutch to shift from one gear to another so that also means the driver will have to use both feet while driving. Considering this factor, I’m favouring the automated one.

However, they also say that a manual transmission car is less expensive than an automatic car – and it is also easier to maintain and less expensive to repair. Experts also note that if you have started your driving with a manual car, it would be easier for you to learn how to drive an automatic car instead of the other way around.

Skilled drivers also favor manual transmission cars because most of them can shift gears faster than automatic transmissions but since I am no skilled driver, I doubt I will be able to outdo an automated machine.

I will have to check with the prices first then. If there is not much of a difference, then I would get an automated car that requires less work for me while driving because I’m actually scared of our main roads filled with buses and jeeps with reckless drivers. I think I should also get a cheap auto insurance too.
